Want to get Rosalie Brown’s stunning cover look? Our makeup guru extraordinaire, Janine Holmes, explains exactly how to get it.

STEP 1:

A Spotless Complexion

First off, Rosalie has amazing skin, which makes my job so much easier. I used Face Atelier Ultra Foundation (faceatelier.com) – it magically melts into the face, making it look like skin rather than makeup. Then I lightly set everything with MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural Powder (maccosmetics.ca) – I call it pantyhose for the face! It smooths everything out and has a low-level sheen that gives the skin a soft glow.

STEP 2:

The Windows to the Soul

I wanted to define Rosalie’s eyes without them looking too overdone, as we were going for a soft glam look, so I stuck to neutral-tone eyeshadows to shade and highlight. I also used a combo of matte and shimmer textures to create balance. The iconic Naked Basics Eyeshadows from Urban Decay (urbandecay.ca) has all of these colours and finishes in one handy palette.
To line Rosalie’s eye, I used Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper (katvondbeauty.com). It’s long-wearing, smudge-proof, and even workout-proof!
To darken her lashes, I used Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara (essencemakeup.ca) to give her the look of falsies without having to apply them. One coat is all I needed to define and plump them up.
Of course, then there are the brows! They are such an important feature to define, especially for a photoshoot! I used Joe Fresh’s Universal Brow Tint Pen (shoppersdrugmart.com), which is so versatile and can really mimic JANINE HOLMES a hair and makeup artist who has powdered the noses of A-listers everywhere. STEP 3:

Pucker Up

To complete Rosalie’s makeup look, I used Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick (bitebeauty.com). I blended together two colours, Chutney and Flambé, to create her perfect pout. Don’t worry about dry mouth: this lipstick is creamy, thick, and very comfortable to wear.
I had a blast working with Rosalie. She was very professional and had great energy. She normally wears her hair up and keeps her makeup simple because she is usually promoting her fitness products, so it was fun to glam her up for her cover shoot!
