Making Viral Beauty Work for You

Nothing goes viral faster these days than TikTok’s beauty-focused content. The platform has become known for causing a storm with innovative beauty tricks and hacks that will elevate your beauty routine for the better. The question is, are these life-changing beauty hacks good for anyone 40-plus? DFYNE’s Resident Makeup Artist and Beauty expert Janine Holmes certainly thinks so! Below are four Tiktok trends that are excellent for a more mature crowd and the best products to achieve them.

TikTok Trend #1: No-makeup makeup

The first trend is called no-makeup makeup because you are wearing makeup, but it doesn’t look like it! A no-makeup makeup look for anyone over 40 is easy to do and provides a fresh-faced look without feeling overdone.

Two products that will help give you naked-looking, flawless skin are from Iconic London.

Start with their Underglow Blurring Primer ($39), which is a skincare-makeup hybrid that not only helps your skin look its best, but it also ensures your makeup applies like a dream and lasts all day.

Next, use the Super Smoother Blurring Skin Tint ($42) overtop. The tint is lightweight, ultra-hydrating and will give you a blurred and flawless look that feels like a second skin and is long wearing for up to 12 hours.

TikTok Trend #2: Siren eyes

This eyeliner trend is a fun one that we’ve seen lots of celebrities wearing on the red carpet. Siren eyes are a throwback to old Hollywood starlets who would use liquid eyeliner to create an extended wing for larger, exaggerated eyes. These days, siren eyes are a modern take on winged liner with the liner extended on both the inner and outer corners.

An excellent and affordable liner that you can use to achieve this look is Essence’s Lash Princess Liner ($4.99), a perfect companion to their viral Lash Princess mascara. This liner is mini but mighty. It’s long-lasting, smudge-proof and has a tapered felt tip that allows you to get into the inner corner of your eyes. As an added bonus, the formula comes in both regular and waterproof! Note: if you find black eyeliner too harsh, you can soften this look by using a brown or taupe eyeshadow instead.

TikTok Trend #3: Blush draping

Blush draping is a unique way to apply blush higher up on the cheekbones for a more sculpted and lifted look. A cream blush like the Pixi On-the-Glow Blush Tinted Moisture Stick ($24) is perfect for this look. It’s a tinted balm that’s formulated with ginseng, aloe vera and fruit extracts and it gives a hint of natural colour in just one sweep. Plus, because the blush is in stick form, it’s easy to apply right on the high planes of the cheeks, and the cream formula is smooth and won’t accentuate skin texture or fine lines. There are three shades available to complement all skin tones, and you can even use them on your lips as well.

TikTok Trend #4: Gym lips

This trend is called gym lips because it’s so soft and natural you can wear it to the gym, grocery shopping or picking up the kids from school. Everyone will think you just have naturally gorgeous, plump lips!

To achieve gym lips, you start by contouring your lip with a neutral lip liner like the COVERGIRL Exhibitionist All-Day Lip Liner in In the Nude ($10). Apply the lip liner around the entire perimeter of the lips, then simply add a sweep of the COVERGIRL Clean Fresh Tinted Lip Balm ($8) on top. These balms have hyaluronic acid and pomegranate oils for extreme hydration. They are also clean, vegan and cruelty-free. There are five shades to choose from that add a natural flush of colour.
